What started out as self-portraits on paper gradually evolved into masks, and then shifted in a more mysterious direction, taking on the presence of nature spirits: tree spirits, water nymphs, and gnome-like figures. Reusing and manipulating photographs from my I for Nested Pattern series, I began to situate these images within familiar yet altered landscapes. These forms draw from folkloric archetypes of benevolent beings that act as teachers, protectors, and healers, allowing me to move beyond self-portraiture and into a more intuitive exploration of the imaginary spirit world.
